Glenfield Junction Alliance

The Project

The Glenfield Transport Interchange (GTI) is stage one of Sydney’s South West Rail Link project. Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDC) is delivering the project on behalf of the NSW Government.

Glenfield Junction is currently a high use, flat junction for passenger and freight services. Conflicts between train paths on the lines restrict existing capacity and limit the ability to operate additional services to accommodate future growth.

The GTI will allow increased and more reliable rail services, provide increased commuter car parking spaces and provide modern, safe and accessible station and interchange facilities for all rail commuters.

The Glenfield Junction Alliance (GJA) comprises TIDC, MVM Rail, Macmahon, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Scope of Work

Work involves delivery of civil and track work, traction power and overhead wiring, and signalling elements.

Construction includes:

  • A flyover at Glenfield Junction to carry the Up East Hills Line over the Main South Line.
  • New and modified rail systems and infrastructure, including reconfigurations of tracks to separate services between existing passenger and freight trains.
  • Platform re-configurations and alterations at Glenfield Station including lifts.
  • A new platform, footbridge and overhead concourse.
  • Road layout modifications along Railway Parade.
  • An upgraded transport interchange including bus facilities, kiss-and-ride facilities and improved access to the station.

Challenges & Innovations

The project team is required to work in a live rail environment with zero reliability incidents.

To minimise disruption to stakeholders during works solutions for minimising traffic, access and parking disruptions have been developed.

Community

A stakeholder engagement plan is being used to build and maintain good relationships and minimise disruption for adjacent residents, business owners and transport users.
