Projects

North Quay Rail Link

Project Description

MVM Rail was responsible for all of the works required to construct a new rail terminal at the Fremantle Port, including a new dedicated spur line from the Fremantle-Perth Passenger Line. The project included the upgrading of existing infrastructure such as roads, sea walls and existing narrow gauge track, with a requirement to modify existing signalling and overhead hardware. Final commissioning of the project involved a 54 hour track shutdown to install a twin flexure canted 1:16 dual gauge (narrow/standard) turnout in an area of existing track that was situated on a large embankment with no access for cranage. This necessitated the installation of the turnout in preassembled units up to 35 metres in length and 40 tonne in weight. During the same shutdown the signalling within the existing Fremantle Marshalling Yard was decommissioned and the new terminal commissioned. Other trackwork included the laying of dual gauge, concrete sleepered track and turnouts, complex alterations were required to the signalling and overhead works associated with this project. Civil works: including earthworks, road works, diversion and installation of services, construction of a sea wall, gross pollutant trap and a new four span bridge.

Project Outcome

Project was completed on time and on budget.
