Rapid Growth Phase 3
The Project
MVM Rail, in partnership with John Holland, were engaged to deliver the trackworks component of BHPBIO’s Rapid Growth Project #3.
The project scope consisted of the extension of three mainline siding on the BHPBIO Newman Railway at Weeli, Poonda and Hesta as well as the extension of the existi ng rail loop at Mining Area C.
Specific issues managed included delivery of multi ple track installati ons within prearranged shutdowns of the mainline, including turnout installati on and trackslews.
Several innovati ons were successfully implemented on these projects including miti gati ng a shortf all in possession availability by completi ng two turnout installati ons 40km apart within a single 12 hour possession using a single workcrew. MVM also assisted in developing an integrated commissioning plan which achieved three separate commissionings within a single operati onal shutdown period, allowing a single upload of BHPBIO train control data to the locomoti ve fl eet.
As well as being delivered on ti me and under budget, the project was notable for its completi on LTI free and received an award for excellence in environmental management.
